Week 21: Van Gogh Inspired Art

Hello fellow artists!

I never thought that I'd be making a Vincent Van Gogh recreation, so this was exciting! His technique is wet on dry, which gives him that texture. (It is another reason why Starry Night makes me dizzy :) He also used quick brush marks to create the sense of movement and motion.

My creation is 11x14 inches long and uses watercolor. I did a contour line drawing first before I painted. I did a Starry Night re-creation with an owl as the main subject. I'm not sure if he did a watercolor with an owl, but I thought that it would be cool non-the-less. I also noticed that I prefer the wet on wet technique.

  1. I really like this! It looks just like a Van Gogh painting and the owl is cute. Nice job.

  3. Oh I love your sky, how you imitated Starry Night but added your own style. The owl's facial features are so good, I like the highlights in the eyes. I might suggest trying to mix more vibrant colors, but your painting turned out really good. Keep up the great work!
