Week 33: Cubist Still Life

Hello!
This week I finished my still life. First of all, I did this assignment with colored pencil because I haven't done colored pencil in forever, and I also learned this time to not use crayon. I knew that crayon gives that weird texture, but I did it anyway and I didn't quite get what I was hoping for, so I won't try that again.
Second, I went for a bit more of a realist abstract still life. The thick lines helped make it look abstract, but I prefer a more realistic abstract so that's what I did.
Third, many cubist paintings are in neon colors and the like, but I just don't like that style. After looking at Salvador Dali's art (he was an artist from the cubist movement), I saw he used neutral and natural colors, so I tried that out too.
Fourth, in the part one post I talked about why I chose to do these items in the still life. If you haven't read that post yet, please go check it out.
This was a big learning experience, but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out!

  1. This piece is really interesting! I like how you layered the objects in the drawing and made them appear to mesh together. Awesome job!

  2. I must say I always really like looking at your artwork, it is also new and different good job. This one is no different I really like the idea of the plants and the candles. You can tell what each piece is and there is little to no confusion, good job.
